Throwdown's second full length had a mixture of melody and power. The straightedge hardcore band really stretched their abilities and proved that they were more than just another Orange County hardcover band. This 2001 release from Indecision records is a classic that all fans of the genre should not be without.
Here is the track listing for You Don't Have to be Blood To Be Family:
1. Unite
2. Trust
3. Family
4. Accept the Change
5. Perfect Story
6. Together Rising
7. Program
8. Lost in Time
9. No More Hate
10. Too Little, Too Late
11. Edge Is Strong
12. [CD-ROM Track] [Multimedia Track] - Throw Down
Throwdown's You Don't Have to be Blood To Be Family still gets plenty of plays in my cd player as one of the best examples of sophomore glory. Their first records were good, but this one jumped farther than ever imagined.

Currently Listening To Volume 1
Right now a lot of albums are swirling through my zune. I'm currently listening to the new Rise Against record "Appeal To Reason" i picked it up at Best Buy for 7.99 and it's really good. A lot better than the last record they put out.
I'm also listening to the new Mxpx "On the Cover II". I picked that up for 9.99 at the old best buy too.
I'm still buying music. I never download music because I like having a physical disc for ownership and liability. I don't believe in p2p music downloads.

The Hilarious Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg has had his moments on the radar. Recently he was the talk of a lot of people with the lead single "Sensual Seduction" which is a censored version of "Sexual Eruption" off his "Ego Trippin" album which has yet to reach platinum status. However, in a recent conversation with my coworkers I remembered a single and video from the album "Paid Tha Cost to Be Da Boss" in which Snoop Dogg left No Limit Records and had an interesting little video featuring a doll of himself. The doll would create havoc for Snoop throughout the video and some random person would yell/sing "Snoop Dogg" with full echo's. It was like John Witherspoon was on the track, which made for some hilarious times.
I present for your consideration the track "From Da Chuuurch To Da Palace" from Snoop Dogg's "Paid The Cost To Be Da Boss" record. First you can read the lyrics and then you can watch the hilarious video featuring some great cameo's:
Fa shizzle dizzle, its the big Neptizzle
with the Snoopy D-O-Double Jizzle!
...(Snoop dogg! Snoop Dogg!)
...C-walk to this (Snoop dogg! Snoop Dogg!)
...Hehe, yeah, C-walk to this (Snoop dogg! Snoop Dogg!)
...Ahaha, C-walk to this (Snoop dogg! Snoop Dogg!)
Bam, boom, watchoo gone do cuz?
Guess I'm rollin in with them baby blue chucks
And I still got my khakis creased
Im still rockin on these beats, and got a bad rep on the streets
Its the S-N-double-O-P, and, biggest dogg of 'em all
and youse a flea, and
and since I got time to drop it for you, I guess I must
and give it to you mother fuckas like bust-a-bust
I keep the heat on deck, but in God we trust
And cant none of yall, fuck wit us
But you can run up on the G but thats not thinkin wisely
these pullas are contagious, just like Ron Isley
(What the hell is goin on? Someone's sleepin in my home)
Snoop to the D-O-Double G
Get in, where you fit in... follow me
Whos the man with that dance? (Snoop dogg! Snoop Dogg!)
Who kick the khakis from his pants? (Snoop dogg! Snoop Dogg!)
Keep the lo-lo in the three wheel stance (Snoop dogg! Snoop Dogg!)
Still rock the gin n juice in hand (Snoop dogg! Snoop Dogg!)
I do it for the G's, and I do it for the hustlaz
Here to annihilate you mark-ass bustas
fuck the police cuz all they wanna do is cuff us
The one nigga is chilly, as if his name was Usher
But I'm still ridin in macks, makin 'em G stacks
and got them corn rows to the back
I aint really tryin to be picky
but if you give me somethin, its got to be the sticky
Doin by the ounces, Lo' lo's bouncin
Ninety doin fakin with kissin on the couchin
Boo to the ouchin, more a fountain
But thats how we get anotha doggy dogg housin
This year we aint fuck wih thousands
We clean with millions and we fly as a falcon
Pull up to the Doggy Dogg Pound, with a car fulla bitches
fuckin grits like Alice
Three 14 inch rims is runnin on the side (They riding on the side?)
Yeah they runnin on the side!
Three 14 inch rims is running on the side (They riding on the side?)
Yeah they runnin on the side!
Three 14 inch rims is running on the side (They riding on the side?)
Yeah they runnin on the side!
Three 14 inch rims is running on the side (They riding on the side?)
Yeah they runnin on the side!
Take two and pass it, it will not burn you
From the Long Beach chronicles to the Wall Street Journal
They all know the G with the cut in his coupe
Ask Bill Gates (yeah I know the homie Snoop)
Yeah I'm still loaded, hangin wit my folk and
Follow Rakim cause "I Ain't No Joke"
Cause I done seen so much, enuff to have your felons touched
When the gunshots ratta, all ya boys scatta'
Check up on ya homies but they gave ya bad data
Nigga fuckin stop breathin
That is so relievin', and now ya bitches are leavin'
What I say cuz what I say is so real
Homie you don' wanna see da, steel
You dont wanna catch a body, You cant hear the party!
Now thats what you should do, now wheres my baby-boo?
I personally don't recommend "Paid Da Cost To Be Da Boss" as a definitive record of Snoop Dogg's later material, but rather would steer you towards the r&B infused album "Rhythm & Gangsta" in which Snoop uses lots of melody and bass to flow a great lyrical dagger into mainstream hip hop music. Pick Up Snoop Dogg's Rhythm & Gangsta on cd or download Snoop Dogg's Rhythm & Gangsta via amazonmp3.com

Attack of the Pop Songs
For some odd reason I am up at 4 am daily. I watch a little MTV and VH1 and they keep repeating some videos that are now stuck in my head, and thanks to this post they are going to be stuck in your heads too....so here goes ATTACK OF THE POP SONGS!
That's right...attack of the pop songs....
This is how it's going to go down; I am going to post the song and the lyrics and you can watch the music video after each lyrical dagger. Good luck as you tread through the pop songs...which I usually hate but can't ignore these and must now post them for you to enjoy too.
Santogold's album "Santogold" is all over the place. I hear it in the clubs, I hear it at work, and now I have the latest single "L.E.S Artistes" in my head. The hook is so clever and easy to sing, so you're going to enjoy this one. Here are the lyrics for Santogold's "Les Artistes" off of the album "Santogold" followed by the official music video:
What I'm searching for
to tell it straight, I'm trying to build a wall
Walking by myself
down avenues that reek of time to kill
If you see me keep going
be a pass by waver
Build me up, bring me down
just leave me out you name dropper
Stop trying to catch my eye
I see you good you forced faker
Just make it easy
You're my enemy you fast talker
I can say I hope it will be worth what I give up
If I could stand up mean for the things that I believe
What am I here for
I left my home to disappear is all
I'm here for myself
Not to know you
I don't need no one else
Fit in so good the hope is that you cannot see me later
You don't know me
I am an introvert an excavator
I'm duckin' out for now
a face in dodgy elevators
Creep up and suddenly
I found myself
an innovator
Change, change, change,
I want to get up out of my skin
tell you what
if I can shake it
I'm 'a make this
something worth dreaming of
You can download Santogold's mp3 album via amazonmp3.com or buy the full length cd which is out now.
Our next video is from a band that I had mistaken with another indie band swinging out the hits, and well, thanks to this video I found it it was none other than Black Kids. Here they are in a video for their single "I'm not going to teach your boyfriend how to dance with you" off of their critically acclaimed album "Partie Traumatic". Not half bad if you ask me. The lyrics are cool too, not too heavy, and just right for you hipster loving music fans. I have this stuck in my head too, and the hook is just too sweet...listen up kiddos. Here are the lyrics for the track "I'm not going to teach your boyfriend how to dance with you" off the album "Partie Traumatic" from Black Kids:
You are the girl that I've been dreaming of ever since I was a little girl
You are the girl that I've been dreaming of ever since I was a little girl
One,
I'm biting my tongue
Two,
He's kissin' on you
Three,
Oh, why can't you see?
One! Two! Three! Four!
The word's on the streets and it's on the news:
I'm not gonna teach him how to dance with you.
He's got two left feet and he bites my moves.
I'm not gonna teach him how to dance, dance, dance, dance
The second I do, I know we're gonna be through.
I'm not gonna teach him how to dance with you.
He don't suspect a thing. I wish he'd get a clue.
I'm not gonna teach him how to dance, dance, dance, dance
One!
You're biting my tongue.
Two!
I'm kissin' on you.
Three!
Is he better than me?
One! Two! Three! Four!
The word's on the streets and it's on the news:
I'm not gonna teach him how to dance with you.
He's got two left feet and he bites my moves.
I'm not gonna teach him how to dance, dance, dance, dance
Download Black Kids mp3 album from amazonmp3.com now.

The next album is odd, I usually don't go for this style of music at all, but thanks to 4 am mtv, I now have it solidly stuck in my head with the other videos here. Taylor Swift's "Love Story" off of her latest album "Fearless" which is a sappy song, but it works to stick inside my brain...which is easily swayed these days. Here are the lyrics for the song "Love Story" from Taylor Swift's latest album "Fearless" which is not half bad...if you like that sort of thing:
We were both young when I first saw you.
I close my eyes and the flashback starts:
I'm standing there on a balcony in summer air.
See the lights, see the party, the ball gowns.
See you make your way through the crowd
and say hello;
Little did I know
That you were Romeo; you were throwing pebbles,
And my daddy said, "Stay away from Juliet."
And I was crying on the staircase,
begging you, 'Please, don't go.'"
And I said,
"Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone.
I'll be waiting; all there's left to do is run.
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story - baby just say 'Yes.'"
So I sneak out to the garden to see you.
We keep quiet 'cause we're dead if they knew.
So close your eyes; escape this town for a little while.
'Cause you were Romeo, I was a scarlet letter,
And my daddy said "Stay away from Juliet,"
But you were everything to me; I was begging you, 'Please, don't go,'"
And I said,
"Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone.
I'll be waiting; all there's left to do is run.
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story - baby just say 'Yes.'
Romeo save me - they're tryin' to tell me how to feel;
This love is difficult, but it's real.
Don't be afraid; we'll make it out of this mess.
It's a life story - baby just say "Yes.'"
Oh.
I got tired of waiting,
Wondering if you were ever comin' around.
My faith in you was fading
When I met you on the outskirts of town,
And I said,
"Romeo save me - I've been feeling so alone.
I keep waiting for you but you never come.
Is this in thy head? I don't know what to think-"
He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said,
"Marry me, Juliet - you'll never have to be alone.
I love you and that's all I really know.
I talked to your dad - go pick out a white dress;
It's a love story - baby just say 'Yes.'"
Oh, oh.
We were both young when I first saw you...
Check out the new Taylor Swift Album "Fearless" or download Taylor Swift's "Fearless" on mp3 via amazonmp3.com
Here we are back again with yet one last attack of the pop songs update and you know what? The new Beyonce single is not half bad. Her single for "Like a Boy" features some great on the fret singing, and is very catch, and I don't know why. "Like a Boy" is off her latest album "I am...Sasha Fierce" and isn't half bad. It comes out next week...not bad.
That's all I have for you guys today. I'm selling out I guess....cause these songs are not traditional to my hxc moniker.

The Nightwatchman Covers Rage Against the Machine Live

While Zack de la Rocha is off being lead singer to One Day As A Lion, Tom Morello breaks free of his hip hop rock music and once again steps out into the spotlight with his solo project The Nightwatchman. Previously releasing a full record of himself with a guitar seeing bluesy music, Tom Morello distanced himself from his former heavy rock projects that saw some of the best music coming out for nearly a decade. Sure The Nightwatchman is not Rage Against the Machine and it is not Audioslave, but it features a stripped down version of musical and lyrical integrity that many might be quick to say is missing in music. Especially considering that the only politically charged and moving music is coming out of bands like “The Flobots” and “Anti-Flag” but no one is afraid Anti-Flag are they?
Here’s two videos from recent performances of The Nightwatchman, one featuring a cover song of the hit Rage Against the Machine track “Guerilla Radio” and the other “One Man Revoltuion” which is sure to please:
You can pick up the latest Nightwatchman record entitled "The Fabled City" now via amazon.com or download The Nightwatchman's cd "The Fabled City" mp3 album via amazonmp3.com

Pennywise Fuck Authority Music Video

The day after Obama wins the U.S election I could only think about one thing. That's Pennywise's anthem "Fuck Authority". I am sure that "My Own Country" off of Straight Ahead would be a much better anthem, but at this point I did NOT vote for Obama and am NOT thrilled that our new president is Obama, and like the whiners of 2004 that were talking smack about George W. I am the one that is left holding the bag.
Before I even finished casting my vote the United States declared Obama the winner, BEFORE I FINISHED CASTING MY VOTE! My vote doesn't count, it doesn't. If I didn't vote the same result would have happened. So today, I'm all for the Pennywise song "Fuck Authority" off of their record "Land of the Free?" and here are the lyrics followed by the music video:
Someday
You gotta find another way
You gotta right your mind and live by what you say
Today
Is just another day
Lets set your sights and try to find our way
I say fuck authority
Silent majority
Raised by the system
Now its time to rise against them
Were sick of your treason
Sick of your lies
Fuck no, we wont listen
Were gonna open your eyes
Frustration
Domination
Feel the rage of a new generation
Were living
Were dying
Were never gonna stop
Stop trying
You know
Youve got a right to take control
You gotta take offense against the status quoue
No way
Were gonna stand for it today
Fight for your rights
Its time we had our say!
I say fuck authority
Silent majority
Raised by the system
Now its time to rage against them
Were sick of your treason
Sick of your lies
Fuck no, we wont listen
Were gonna open your eyes!
Frustration
Domination
Feel the rage of a new generation
Were living
Were dying
Were sick and tired of your endless lying
Destroy
Enjoy
Your fucking world is our brand new toy
Dominate
Eliminate
Your gonna feel the wrath
Wrath of hate
Fuck authority
Silent majority
Raised by the system
Now its time to rise against them
Were sick of your treason
Sick of your lies
Fuck no, we wont listen
Were gonna open your eyes
Frustration
Domination
Feel the rage of a new generation
Were living
Were dying
Were never gonna stop
Stop trying
I might have been one of the few people in America that uses their brain and somehow I missed the fact that my vote doesn't count. Just like in Mexico the sheep of this country win, and those that oppose fundamentalist socialism are denied their voice.
I'm not upset with the outcome as much as I am upset that the winner was declared BEFORE I CAST MY VOTE! The United States basically gave me a big middle finger, and that's what upsets me most.
So today, and for a while, I'm brushing up on my Pennywise Discography, and I suggest everyone stands up and gets "Land of the Free?" because this country is a toilet of political crap.

Powerman 5000 Free Music Video

Powerman 5000 was a big joke to me and my friends as they were a band that was playing heavy industrial music, and dressed as comic book characters on stage. They got famous in large part to the song "When World's Collide" which was a somewhat break out hit, but they didn't hit my radar until their album "Transform" came out and the guys dropped the costumes and the industrial sound and really came into their own.
With their lead off single "Free" they really reminded me of the Project 86 album "Drawing Black Lines" and really overshadowed Project 86's run on Atlantic records and subsequent drop from the mainstream all together. Powerman 5000 hit the ground running with this pseudo political album "Transform".
So on today, Election day in the United States, here is the lyrics and video for Powerman 5000's hit single "Free" from the album "Transform":
Let's go!
Everybody needs to start their own fire
Everybody needs a riot of their own
Everybody needs to be something that they are not
Everybody needs to go it alone
Because!
Living so free is a tragedy
When you can't be what you want to be
Living so free is a tragedy
When you can't see what you need to see
Okay!
All the time spent hanging on to anything
All the time spent knowing that they're wrong
All the time wasted, stolen back, innocent
You won't get a second more so move it along
Because!
Living so free is a tragedy
When you can't be what you want to be
Living so free is a tragedy
When you can't see what you need to see
Living so free is a tragedy
When you can't be what you want to be
Living so free is a tragedy
When you can't see what you need to see
Wishing and hoping and thinking it's you
That's got this all under control
Never a minute has passed you all by
When they haven’t invaded your soul
It’s not something you can hold
It’s not something you own
It's not something you can buy or steal
You've got it when you're alone
Being free is a tragedy
When you don't know yourself
Being free is a tragedy
When you don't know who you are
Living so free is a tragedy
When you can't be what you want to be
Living so free is a tragedy
When you can't see what you need to see
Living so free is a tragedy
When you can't be what you want to be
Living so free is a tragedy
When you can't see what you need to see
Let's go!
Hey, hey, hey!
Alright then
This is the story of your life man
(And in other places around the world,
It's growing clear that the americans are trigger happy)
Pick up the Powerman 5000's "serious" record entitled "Transform" on cd via amazon.com or download Powerman 5000's "Tonight The Stars Revolt!" mp3 album from amazonmp3.com! Oh and check out Project 86's "Drawing Black Lines" via amazon.com which is an awesome record as well.
